PSA Poster Design - Progression 3
This is the revised version of our draft. However, it was still rejected. Miss Ivy likes the content image. However there are some room for improvment.
The typography of ' Choose Your Side' is too small. It needs to be reduced. I think this is to create balance in the layout.
The youth creative logo needs to be re-arranged to the middle. I think also to create balance in the layout. Another reason is because Youth Creative is the organiser.
The 'Human or addict' font is not suitable. I guess it looks to 'happy' and 'friendly' considering that our theme is quire dark.

PSA Poster Design - Progression 2
Out of the four drafts that we have, we chose the first one as our guideline. We took the idea of splitting the face into two sides to show the before and after effects of taking drugs.
This is the draft we have chosen. It was rejected.
Miss Ivy's commented that the design is too raw and rough. She further commented that the face is not right. The positive side of the face needs to have brighter colour. The background is too empty.
The negative side is not dramatic enough. It needs to have blood on the face and the background is too plain.
The typography of title is not suitable because it does not create a big impact.

2. Poster Design Theme
Our poster design theme is substance abuse. Our message is informing or making the public aware of the negative effects of drugs. We will be highlighted on the fact that drugs are highly addictive and harmful to a person’s body and mind, and even cause death. Also, our second message is informing the public that it is possible for an addict to recover and live a healthier lifestyle. It is never too late for anybody.
3. Description of Our Video Clip & How it Relates with Our Poster Design Theme
Our video clip is about substance abuse by young adults. It begins with a boyfriend and girlfriend taking drugs and drinking alcohol excessively. Then it shows that the boy goes to a rehabilitation center where he suffers severe withdrawal syndromes. He vomits several times a day and craves for drugs and alcohol. He tries to replace his cravings with coffee and food. He plans to quit the treatment and leave the rehab center. However, suddenly his old drug addict friend visits him. His friend persuades him to stop trying to be better and hands him drugs. He takes the drugs and goes to his room. When he is about to snort the cocaine, he thinks about her. <Flashback: She didn’t start out to be an addict. She tries to stop him from taking drugs but he said it’s hard to quit. So she tries to prove to him that it’s easy to quit by taking drugs herself. She failed to quit and became addicted herself. She overdosed and dies> He doesn’t want to end up like her and decides to stay clean and sober for good. He throws away the drug. Manages to finish the treatment. He attends his graduation ceremony. As the theme for our poster is substance abuse, it will definitely relate to our video clip as it shares the same theme. We will also be including the major issues that were in our video clip into our poster, which is drug abuse causes death, however it is not too late for an addict to live a happier and healthier lifestyle.
4. Reasons Why We Do Not Need a Logo for Our Poster Design
No, we do not need a logo because it is an awareness poster. The aim of our poster is to bring awareness to the public and not promoting a company’s product or service. Thus, our poster does not require a logo.
5. Sponsors’ for the Competition and Reasons Why We Need Their Logo
NGO and Taylor’s University are the sponsors for the competition. Yes, we need to include their logo because the public needs to be aware who are the people sponsoring and involved in this poster. Also, by including the sponsors’ logo we will be help increase the sponsors’ brand image.
